‘Great Escapes’ by Dinah Child
We had to leave Paris quickly. I well remember climbing into a horse-drawn cart in the dark of the moon, being covered with blankets and told not to say a word, cough or sneeze because we were not to be heard or seen.
Moissac in the war
In May-June 1940, following the exode, hundreds of children from the Jewish organisation, Éclaireurs israélites de France (EIF), found refuge in Moissac (Tarn-et-Garonne). Benefiting from extensive support from the local community and some of the police, the city because a real haven of peace for more than 600 Jewish children. The Occupation of the southern zone in November 1942 did not change anything. None of these children were arrested or deported.
